Schedule is notional pending confirmation of available tee times. Players should attempt as much as possible to play during the normal tee times on Friday afternoons but can alternatively play as needed in the preceding week.
LOCATIONS
Matches will be played at Northern Colorado golf courses including the following; pending tee time availability:
- Olde Course, Loveland
- Mariana Butte, Loveland
- Southridge, Fort Collins
- Ute Creek, Longmont
- Saddleback, Firestone
- Bella Rosa, Firestone
- Mad Russian, Milliken
Most courses have leagues already setup at them that run Monday through Thursday Evenings leaving Friday as the best time for our league to meet. Courses will not allow for booking of rounds unless it is within 7-14 days ahead of expected playing date, depending on the course. For this reason, the match location will be dependent on tee time availability. Commissioner will let players know ASAP the playing location once tee times are locked in.
TEE BOX SELECTION
Men will play from tee boxes with yardages as close as possible to 3150 yards per 9 holes. Women will play from tee boxes as close as possible to 2300 yards per 9 holes. Course slope will not be considered. Commissioner will note tee boxes to be played from for each given match prior to match start.
LEAGUE CONSTRUCTION
The league will be divided into 4 divisions. Each division will comprise a maximum of 5 players. Divisions will be setup to maintain social groups. Divisions and standings are found here.
LEAGUE RULES
MATCH SETUP
Players will be matched against another player in the league for each new match. The player who posts the lowest net stroke play score (9 hole score to par – league handicap) from this matchup will receive a point for the week. Ties will result in a half point to each player.
SCOREKEEPING
Players should keep track of their score throughout their round in either digital format (18 birdies, GHIN APP, etc) or physical copies and be given to the commissioner at the end of each round. To maintain pace of play and to keep lost balls to a minimum, the max score on each hole is +4 (7 on a par 3, 8 on a par 4, 9 on a par 5).
PRE-PLAY
It is preferred that each player play during league night to maximize competitiveness, socialization, and fairness. If players cannot join for the regular league night they can alternatively play on their own anytime in the preceding week. It is preferred that during these preplay rounds that the player play with at least 1 other player from the league to maintain league integrity.
MISSED WEEKS
If a player does not complete their match due to missing both the league night and not completing a pre-play round, it will be deemed a forfeit and that player will not be able to receive any points for that week. The opponent of the forfeiting player will be able to earn a point by shooting equal to or lower than their average score to par up to that point within the league.
HANDICAPS
Handicaps will be custom calculated based on previous rounds played within the league. Following the 18 hole handicap round, a 9 hole handicap will be calculated using the following formula:
Handicap = ROUND(A – S/2 -1)
Where A is the average score to par of the previous eight 9 hole rounds and S is the standard deviation of the score to par of the previous eight 9 hole rounds. Handicap will be adjusted following each round using the updated score information provided by each player. Course rating will not be used to calculate handicap.
Examples:
- A player who played their handicap round and shot a 6 over par on the front and a 8 over par on the back would have a handicap of 5.
- The average score of the players is 7.
- The standard deviation of the players’ scores is 1.41.
- The un-rounded handicap of this player is 7.00 – 1.41/2 – 1.00 = 5.29.
- Rounding 5.29 to the nearest number is 5.
- A player who played their handicap round and shot a 9 over par on the front and a 12 over par on the back, and then shot a 13, 6, and 8 over par on the next three 9 hole rounds would have a handicap of 7.
- The average score of the player is 9.6.
- The standard deviation of the players’ scores is 2.88.
- The un-rounded handicap of this player is 9.60 – 2.88/2 – 1.00 = 7.15.
- Rounding 7.15 to the nearest number is 7.
- A player who played their handicap round and shot a -1 to par on the front and even par (0) on the back, and then shot a 1, 5, and 2 over par on the next three 9 hole rounds would have a handicap of -1.
- The average score of the player is 1.4.
- The standard deviation of the players’ scores is 2.3.
- The un-rounded handicap of this player is 1.4 – 2.3/2 – 1.00 = -0.75.
- Rounding -0.75 to the nearest number is -1.
DIVISION WINNER
At the end of the season, the golfer with the most points in each of the 4 divisions will be deemed division winner. In the event of a tie, the winner will be selected using the the following tiebreaker rules in order of precedence:
- Head to head winner
- Most times competing during standard league night
- Coinflip
END OF SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
Following the completion of the regular season, the 4 division winners will be seeded into a 4 person bracket. The commissioner will work with the division winners to organize an 18 hole championship round on a weekend day following the completion of the regular season. If a division winner cannot find time to be available to compete, the honor will pass onto the second place finisher within the division and so on.
The championship round will be broken into 2 separate 9 hole matches over the course of the 18 holes. The front 9 of the final 18 hole round will be the semi-final round. The 2 winners of the semi-final front 9 will play a subsequent back 9 for the championship. The 2 losers of the semi-final front 9 will play the back 9 for 3rd place.
END OF SEASON SCRAMBLE
While the championship round is ongoing, league members who did not make the championship final group will have the opportunity to compete in the end of season, 18 hole, divisional scramble. The 4 divisions will compete in a handicapped 4 person scramble for small prizes and bragging rights. Scramble groups will go out ahead of the championship tee time and when finished be able to hang around the 18th green to cheer on the final championship groupings.
